Immerse yourself in two weeks of inspiring dance classes, workshops and performances this summer!

Dance Co’s summer danceLab intensive features technique classes in Contemporary, Jazz, Ballet, Core Alignment, Body Awareness/Anatomy, Improv, Lyrical, Tap and Hip Hop. New works of choreography will be showcased at the end of the intensive and become repertory for Dance Co dancers.

Solid dance training and body awareness are crucial to a dancer’s success. We invite you on an exploration of dance and the pure joy of movement, while fine-tuning your technique, strengthening your body and challenging your mind.

Open to intermediate, advanced and pre-professional dancers–as well as professional dancers and teachers.

Wendi started her training at the young age of 4 in Edmonton; and throughout her later years followed her passion for dance to training facilities in New York and Los Angeles studying with some of the most well-known and respected teachers in the dance industry. As a free-lance Choreographer and Creative Director Wendi continues to travel across Canada, the US and Europe and Asia.

As the Director of Entertainment for the 2000 Winter Games and 2002 Alberta Summer Games she choreographed the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. She also choreographed the opening ceremonies for the International Aids Walk and Cancer Walk for Life in 2001. In 2012, she had the honor of working the Special Olympics Gala Fundraiser here in Edmonton with Blake McGrath and Olympian Jamie Sale.

Wendi believes her greatest accomplishments have been the ability to train, mentor and inspire hundreds of students, many of whom are now teachers, choreographers and professional dancers around the world. We are thrilled to have her back at Dance Co this summer!

Charlene is the Founder and Co-Artistic Director of Kinisi Dance Company. Her dancing has taken her all across North America and Europe. Charlene teaches at dance colleges through the UK, and at London‘s Pineapple Dance Studios ifor professionals. Her inspiration comes from her students’ hard work and dedication to their art. Charlene’s choreography has gained major acclaim at Dance Co. We are thrilled to welcome her back this summer!

Charlene is the Founder and Co-Artistic Director of Kinisi Dance Company. Her dancing has taken her all across North America and Europe. Charlene teaches at dance colleges through the UK, and at London‘s Pineapple Dance Studios for professionals.

Her inspiration comes from her students’ hard work and dedication to their art. Charlene’s choreography has gained major acclaim at Dance Co. We are thrilled to welcome her back this summer!

SarahDolan

Sarah’s passion for dance is evident in every moment on stage, every class she teaches and in every piece she creates. Having trained across Canada and abroad in many disciplines, Sarah possesses a firm foundation which she utilizes in her work. She has had the privilege of being part of numerous works, diverse dance shows and can even be seen in the film, The Wickerman.

Since 2008, Sarah has had the honour of assisting Sean Cheesman on CTV’s So You Think You Can Dance Canada (Season One, Two, Three and Four), Fox America’s So You Think You Can Dance (Season Six, Seven, Eight and Nine), BBC’s So You Think You Can Dance UK (Season One and Two) as well as on CBC’s Over the Rainbow.

Sarah’s choreography for the Pro Half-Day Contemporary “Who” and Intermediate Company 3 & 4 Lyrical “Resolve” won top marks at many competitions during our 2015/16 Competition season. We cannot wait to see what pieces she creates next!

Calen is the Founder and Director of :pushing progress and is on Faculty at Broadway Dance Centre. A consummate instructor, Calen has taugh across Canada, the U.S., Japan, and Ireland. Calen is currently instructing for Dance Masters of America as one of their Master Faculty, and is also on faculty with Dance Educators of America.

His choreography has been recognized as outstanding at many competitions throughout the U.S. and Canada, and has been the recipient of many awards.

Calen’s choreography continues to win top ranking awards. Last year’s Cold Water piece for Dance Co was no exception. Calen’s passion for dance is infectious and we are glad he is back to share it with us!

A guest teacher all over Europe, Miha currently teaches at Studio 68 and Pineapple Dance Studios in London, England. Performing and choreographing for stage and television, Miha is also an adjudicator at the regional, national and world levels. His classes emphasize athleticism combined with a feel-good atmosphere!

Kathy - Web

An IAP scholarship recipient at Broadway Dance Centre, Kathy has performed with the Shiroun Dance Company, BodyArt, Carnival Cruises and :pushing progress. Kathy is currently performing in an international tour of The Beauty and The Beast! Teaching and adjudicating throughout North America, Kathy believes in training based on technique, strength and knowledge of the body–and is passionate about bringing dancers to this awareness. We are thrilled she will be joining us again for another summer!

DANCELAB CHOREOGRAPHY REQUESTS: Dance Co students interested in having individual or small group choreography set for them by any of our visiting faculty may submit a request via email to info@danceco.com. Please include preferences for dance style and choreographer.

Schedule & Tuition:

Dance Co Competitive, Intensive, Company and Professional Half-Day students are required to attend danceLab.

For students aspiring to become a member of these programs in Fall 2017, attendance is highly recommended. Experienced dancers new to Dance Co who wish to dance at one of these levels in the Fall 2017 are required to participate in the danceLab for assessment.

Demi-Competitive students are strongly encouraged to kickstart their fall training with demiLab! Technique classes and fun choreography combos will help you begin your year on the right foot. Tuition is for one week: Monday, August 21 – Friday, August 25.

All Demi-Competitive Dancers 7+ years 9:00AM – 3:00PM $575

Competitive students are required to attend the second week of danceLab, from Sunday, August 27h to Friday, September 1st. For a more in-depth summer intensive, we invite our Competitive students invited to participate in both weeks of danceLab. Tuition is per week.

**Intensive, Company, Pro Half-Day, and Grad Students: We kindly request that you remain available during morning and evenings on danceLab days, as well as Saturday, August 26 and Sunday, August 27. Additional rehearsals may be added to complete choreography with guest faculty.
