Janelle MacFarlane

Ballet, Contemporary, Tap, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Lyrical, Stage

Janelle has been training at Dance Co since she was three years old, and cannot imagine having grown up anywhere else. As a member of Dance Co’s Professional Half-Day Program throughout high school, Janelle had the opportunity to train extensively in all different styles of dance, including ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, hip hop, musical theatre, and acro.

In 2009, Janelle had the chance to travel to New York to attend the Tap City Tap Festival, and train with many inspiring tappers such as Derick Grant and Michelle Dorrance. Janelle has received many master class scholarships, judge’s choice awards, and high scores at competition, for her tap solos especially. She was chosen as the Tap representative from Victoria DanceWorks at the Performing Arts BC Provincial Festival in 2015 and 2016. In 2015, she received honourable mention at the Performing Arts Festival for “Outstanding Rhythm.” In 2016, she won the Rod Schultz Memorial Challenge Trophy for Highest Mark in Solo Tap at the Surrey Festival of Dance.

Janelle developed a love for choreographing pieces at quite a young age, and won a Promising Ballet Choreographer Award from Surrey Festival of Dance at age 16. Janelle recently travelled to Las Vegas to compete at the Dance Awards, and was thrilled to take classes from many talented and well-known choreographers, many of whom have appeared on So You Think You Can Dance. Janelle is thrilled to join the Dance Co. faculty, and share her love of dance with her students. She plans to take her associate ballet and tap exams this year, in order to become a certified teacher in both styles, and to provide the best training for her students.
