Competitive Division
Dance Co offers a competitive division for students looking to take their dancing to the next level. Dancers in our competitive program train with a team of well-matched peers, fostering a true feeling of team spirit! Commitment and class hours are higher than the recreational and demi-competitive divisions with additional performance and competition attendance required. Mentored by our inspiring faculty, our competitive division dancers are constantly challenged to perform to the best of their abilities. Regardless of their level, our dancers are constantly moving forward with their training and achieving their goals through hard work and a passionate dedication to dance.
Our competitive classes are designed for the more serious dance student. Students prepare for competitions in choreography classes and develop their skills in technique classes. All competitive students are required to study ballet in addition to their other classes (with the exception of Hip Hop and Acro). Competitive Hip Hop and Breakdance students are strongly urged to study both disciplines in conjunction, in order to strengthen all aspects of this style.
Sneak Peek Performance
Each year, Dance Co is proud to present a special “pre-show” for friends and family in February. All of our Competitive, Intensive, and Company groups as well as solo/duo/trio dance routines perform in this event. These special shows are a great opportunity for the dancers to perform their routines on stage for an audience prior to their competitions. It allows time to get feedback from the performance and go back to the classroom to make any final changes and corrections prior to performing at the dance competitions. We think that this opportunity is of great benefit for the dancers and lots of fun too!
Competitions & Festivals
Each year our Competitive dancers perform their group and solo/duo/trio dance routines in two dance competitions between February and May. Dance competitions and festivals are great performing opportunities for Dance Co students. They also serve as goals that the dancers may work towards and give dancers a sense of their standing among their peers. Attendance for these events is mandatory. Festival and competition dates are tentative. The events may extend past what is advertised, however we will provide the finalized dates and times as soon as they are available to us.
Recital & Showcase
Dance Co’s year-end Recital performances occur at the end of May. In addition to Recital performances, Dance Co is pleased to present Showcase, a recital performance showcasing competitive, intensive and company routines from the season. Showcase details are released each spring. It is truly an exciting show for friends and family to come see!
Please refer to our Studio Calendar for dates.
Auditions
Auditions for the competitive program occur in June of each year, with additional opportunities for assessment and placement on a case-by-case basis. These auditions allow our faculty to evaluate each dancer’s placement and determine where they will best learn and perform the following year.
Dancers who are already a part of Dance Co's competitive program do not need to re-audition each year. Instead, we will base their next year's placement on their performance over the course of the dance season. If you are hoping to move into a higher competitive division, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can assess your placement.
