Malaika Kamau

Originally from Ottawa, ON Malaika started her training at age 5 at a local dance studio. Training in multiple disciplines such as modern, jazz and contemporary Malaika grew a focus and love for classical ballet. At age 15 she moved away from Ottawa to train at the Alberta Ballet School where she trained for 5 years. While attending on scholarship she graduated from the Post Graduate program under Murray Kilgour and gained her Advanced 2 Cecchetti exam. While at the school she became interested in teaching and attended the Teacher Training Program where she earned her Associate Cecchetti Diploma under Joyce Shietze. This is where she started teaching and leaned about the joy of sharing knowledge to others. She’s also attended various summer training programs around Canada such as Royal Winnipeg Ballet and École Supérieure de Ballet du Québec. Malaika has also trained at summer intensives in the United States such as Alvin Ailey and Boston Ballet.
